The Program
A Green Tour in a country which, within 15 years, will have 1 billion consumers of goods, materials and energy in its cities.
A traveling event with a local, national and international impact.
Where?
China is often presented as the factory of the world, but covers a wide range of local differences and issues. Cities on the Tour were chosen for both their roles and their symbolic association in contemporary China.
The China Green Tour will be held in:
Beijing - capital of China
Shanghai - China’s financial center
Guangzhou - heart of China’s manufacturing industry and trade
Chongqing (Sichuan) - the symbol of China’s recent urbanisation
Taiyuan (Shanxi) - capital of the coal-mining industry
Hohhot (Inner Mongolia) - symbol of the local and international impact of environmental issues (desertification, sand storms, acid rain...)
Gala Openings and Meetings with Decisions-makers
An opening Gala will launch the Tour in Beijing in the presence of officials, international guests, movie stars, entrepreneurs, scientists, NGOs and our business, media and private partners.
To promote the exchange of ideas and business opportunities, additional gala openings and private meetings are planned in every city for our guests, partners, Chinese local officials, NGOs and decision-makers.
Media
Professionals from major TV, Radio and Internet Portals in China have already pledged their personal support and offered wide coverage and publicity for the events, topics and lectures of the China Green Tour. (see the Who supports us? page).
A travelling tour throughout China
An opportunity of exchange
All events of the China Green Tour, including the lectures and Internet coverage, will be promoted together and given wide coverage by our media partners and network in China.
National and international blogs, press, universities and NGOs will be invited to relay and use the China Green Tour as an informative and interactive tool for further exchange, ideas and action.
Five Elements - Five days of films, lectures and events
The organising principle of the China Green Tour is based on the five traditional Chinese elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
The Day of Wood will be dedicated to issues relating to forests, plants, deforestation and soil erosion .
The Day of Fire will be dedicated to energy and industrial transformation processes.
The Day of Earth will be dedicated to food, agriculture, population and biodiversity.
The Day of Metal will be dedicated to financial and development topics regarding environmental issues.
The Day of Water will close the cycle of events with discussions on the ocean, geography and climate refugees. Perspectives and prospectives on water stress will be the key focus of the closing day.
